Where to Buy a Bathing Suit That’s Flattering and Stylish If You’re Over 25

Bathing Suit Season has Arrived.

The pools are open which means bathing suit season has arrived. I can look at this two ways…UGH I have to put on a bathing suit after a winter of packing on the pounds, or WAHOO,  I finally get to be outside in a bathing suit. For a while I thought that summer was never going to arrive. I was still making cold weather outfits for clients at the beginning of May, so at the time, the thought of putting on a bathing suit and sitting at the beach or the pool (unless on vacation) felt like a distant moment. But, friends, bathing suit season has finally arrived, and I’m here to tell ya’ about one of my new fave bathing suit retailer.  Actually, it isn’t new, but it’s really, really good, and you know I love to talk about GOOD.

Literally, it’s Everything But Water.

Everything But Water is just that. They have everything for the pool and beach. Suits, shoes, hats, cover ups, sun block, bags, they truly are everything minus the water. (They do sell water bottles, though.) Everything But Water has store fronts, so if you’re lucky enough to live in a city that has one (I was at the NYC shop recently), hop on in, but if not, hop online it’s just as good. And truth be told, if you’re like me, it might be even better because you get to try on your picks in the privacy of your own home.

Bathing Suit by Fit.

Bathing suit shopping sucks, but now it doesn’t have to. Listen to this, Everything But Water has a fit guide menu. It works like this… If you have narrow shoulders, click the box, if you have a big booty, click the box, if you have a tummy that needs a little added control, click that box. Click based on your body type, and then wham bam thank you ma’am the perfect fitting suits will pop up. And guess what…IT WORKS!! I tried it, ordered one, and kept it. Give it a try and find your perfect fit. But, in the meantime, check out some of my favorite picks for the summer, suits and all.

Stylist Tip.

One other piece of bathing suit shopping advice, remember, you get what you pay for. Yes, you may find less expensive suits but often the fabric quality is sub par and the cuts are often for more of a missy customer. As we mature, we need a fabric with proper stretch and substance to flatter, especially in a bathing suit.

One Piece Swimsuits

Are you more of a one piece gal? The simplicity and full coverage they offer…

The bright colors say summer, and there’s just enough coverage that all your pieces and parts aren’t hanging out all over.

This navy and white striped suit would be so cute paired with a pair of white denim shorts and a flip flop.

Forget a boring black bathing suit. Try this one with the asymmetric shoulder and scalloped detail. P.S. If you have narrow shoulders this is great for you!

For those who don’t want to commit to a two piece but still want the sexy factor.

Two piece Swimsuits

I am more of a two piece girl – honestly, it’s a going to the bathroom thing. Having to take an entire suit off every time nature calls is just too much of a pain in the you know what.

This top is reversible, and so is this bottom. That’s a two for one.

I have this retro looking two piece in my cart. Bottom sold separately. I also have been wearing the bejeebers out of this top and this high waist bottom in navy – it hides lots of not so pretty tummy scars, but you still feel like you’re wearing a “bikini”.

Mara Hoffman knows her swimwear and this two piece helps prove that. Try it with the bottom, or try the one piece if you’d rather.

For the D+ girls. This slimming tankini top can be paired with just about any bottom. The adjustable straps and hidden support bra give the girls all the right support and lift.

Bathing Suit Cover Ups

The cinched waist gives this cover up great shape.

This is similar to the cover up I have on in the top photo – it’s easy breezy.

This is my other favorite cover up – it’s just flowy enough and covers your rear when you sit down to lunch (a must).

If you like your legs, this cover up is for you.

The Everything But Water Shoes

These little espadrilles are awesome and waterproof to boot! What could be better for the pool and then a trip to the market? They can even count as one of the three pairs you pack for a trip.
