Gifts to get Mom for Mother’s Day

Here’s the deal…For moms, Mother’s Day is not about the gifts BUT, in all honesty, we moms still want gifts… That’s the truth. We want to know you thought about us and made a real and actual effort to go to a store or website and buy something. And wrap it.  And get a card. Handmade is nice (especially if the kids are little). But husbands and kids if you’re old enough to read this, please know, this is a time to spend some actual money or the gift card you got from Grandma for your birthday and haven’t used yet, to go out and BUY YOUR MOTHER A GIFT! Show her you appreciate all she does for you in a purely selfless and slightly materialistic way.

I’m just telling you what moms think and feel but won’t say out loud.

It doesn’t need to be an expensive gift but it should be thoughtful, and not just candy bought at the drugstore on the way to brunch, got it???

Sephora Sale – Now’s the time to Stock up and SAVE

Sephora is having a BIG sale! TRUE FACT – Makeup rarely goes on sale at your local beauty counter. But, this week, NOW THRU MAY 6, at Sephora it does!  Yeah, you might get a freebie from your beauty counter to stack in the back of your drawer. Or, maybe a pretty bag that you end up giving to your kids or grandkids, but do you actually really use the stuff? We vote NO because 9 times out of 10, those are the bags we recommend a client donate when we do a closet cleanse. So now’s the time to take advantage of an actual sale at Sephora. And save on products you’ll use.

How it Works…

My BIG TIME Girl Crush, Jackie Wachter

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a girl crush around here. Because well, honestly, I don’t crush on just anyone… But this lady, Jackie Wachter is oh so crush-worthy! Jackie and I were literally set up on a girlfriend date a few years ago. Our mutual friend Eric kept telling us about one another. We tried a few times to meet, but as life often goes with busy ladies, our plans kept getting postponed. Fast forward like 10 months and we finally met at The Plum (Jackie’s suggestion because she really is so cool) and our one hour lunch turned into an entire afternoon. And a beautiful, inspirational and truly supportive friendship was born.

You know that friend that always has their finger on the pulse of what is cool? Like not too cool for school, but humble cool? THAT IS JACKIE! Like when my hubby and I want to try somewhere new for date night, I call Jackie for suggestions – she’s that friend! So who better to tap for ideas about what she’s obsessed with, right? AND, the leather company, FOUNT, that she and her husband founded is a whole other level of awesomeness and one of my personal obsessions!

The New “IT” Shoe you need to know about.

It’s our job to seek out and let you know about what the new “it” pieces are each season. And the floss heel is where it’s at.  We don’t encourage clients or readers (or even each other) to be trendy per se, but being current is something that most people and we like to strive for.

Adding a few key pieces, like a floss heel, can really make your old things feel fresh and new. And that’s how we like to roll.

This season the floss heel is the one shoe we keep seeing that is really wearable and has that ability to update and transform your old clothes into fresh new outfits.

What are Floss Heels??

The floss heel is basically a strappy sandal that while not naked on your foot elongates your legs. The straps are thin, like floss, get it?!? They have kind of a 90’s vibe in a very 2019 kinda way.

Don’t let the name scare you away from it. The heel of the floss heel can be super high or more of a kitten heel. And the nudist quality of the straps lengthen everybody’s legs – and who doesn’t want that?

Hallie’s been wearing the bejeebers out of the pair above. Sadly, they’re sold out but we’ve found a bunch of floss heels that are amazeballs! These floss heels range in price from $89 – $900 and in heel height so there’s something for everyone! Check em’ out…

Floss Heels We Love…

Remember going Passover or Easter Dress Shopping as a Kid?

It’s Spring – YAY! And that means the spring holidays are here. Along with the what to wear for Passover and Easter question. There’s something that feels ritualistic and traditional about getting a new dress for these holidays. It’s like a renewal for the season and makes the holiday feel special when wearing a new frock.

But that all being said, it can stress people out too. I remember as a little girl we’d go with my Grandma and shop for our Passover outfits – I so looked forward to that! Yes, I was a clothes lover even as a kid. My mom talks about taking the rapid downtown to Halle Bros department store and wearing white gloves for her holiday shopping trips. When I imagine it I totally picture a scene from Marvelous Mrs. Maisel but of course, set in Cleveland.

Today that Shopping is Done in Front of the Computer

Today, sad to say, I sit down with my kids in front of the computer and order what they need. Somehow that doesn’t have the same romantic quality as a white glove trip downtown – but it does the trick in today’s busy world. It’s family time but in a different way. At least that’s what I keep trying to tell myself.

And like most moms, I’m usually the last on the list – so if you don’t have your Passover or Easter Dress yet, don’t fret – I spent a little extra time in front of the computer shopping for you, and for me. And I found some great options!

Special but not TOO Special

One of the challenges of getting a dress for a holiday is that you want it to feel special, but not so special that you only wear it once. Ideally, you want to be able to wear it again throughout the year(s).

What’s eShakti?

Honestly, when eShakti first reached out to me I thought it had to be a scam, like one of those too good to be true things that can’t actually be legit. But thankfully, my skepticism was overpowered by my intrigue (and love of clothes) and I took the plunge and customized a dress for myself.

But first, let’s back up and discuss what eShakti is anyway… it’s a revolutionary concept in women’s clothing – they make clothes to a customers’ height, size and style preferences at an affordable price and deliver it in 13-17 days. It’s not bespoke or couture but it is customized by YOU, for YOU.

Exactly how is it customized?

What do I mean by customized? I mean you love a dress but it’s shown sleeveless and you don’t like your arms, or for modesty reasons you cover your arms, you can make that dress with sleeves, voila! You can make the dress, longer or shorter, and you can make the neck, v neck or boat neck or crew neck, whatever is the most flattering for you. eShakti can do that!

If you’re short-waisted or long waisted or your top and bottom are different sizes so finding dresses has been a lifelong challenge,  eShakti IS THE SITE FOR YOU!

AND, they size 00 – 36W so literally EVERYONE can find their fit!!

It’s good in theory AND in reality…

Tie Neck Blouses for the WIN

Let’s talk tie neck blouses, or bow neck or librarian blouses. Whatever you call them we are LOVING them right now!  Yeah, seriously…these are an updated modern take on the old school blouse that you’ve got in your head. You know we’re all about making the most out of your wardrobe, and the updated tie neck blouses are uber versatile. Last week we talked about a comfortable pointy toe flat like Rothy’s showing up on our clients’  shopping lists, and now it’s happening with this tie neck type of blouse too. Even Princess Kate is getting in on it! Regardless of how busty you are or not, this style seems to work on everyone.

Why It looks good on everyone…

Rothy’s is for Everyone

Rothy’s is THE shoe! It has literally been on every single shopping list for every client we’ve seen the last month. If we’ve seen 20 clients it’s been on 20 lists. Okay, in all honesty, 22 lists because Rothy’s is on our own list, too. We’ve recommended them to teachers who stand all day long, to doctors, and lawyers, too. We’ve added them to lists for young moms on the run, and to our retired ladies lists. So when we say they are for everyone, we literally mean for everyone. Even Meghan Markle has traded in her heels for these bad boys. Oh, and they come in kid sizes (sneakers and loafers), so if you have a little one in your life or teeny tiny feet, big score for you.

This shoe is The Shoe!

So what in the hoo-ha are Rothy’s?
They’re the shoes you’ve probably seen on a Facebook ad and wondered about – and the good news is they’re worth trying!  Here’s why…

Spring Break in Europe

Spring Break is coming up on us quicker than we imagined. Some of us have been busy dreaming of resort getaways (see here) while others are debating what to pack for European vacations. We literally, kid you not, have gotten 5 requests in the past few weeks asking what to pack for late March in Europe.  You, lucky people, are headed to Italy, France, England, and Spain, and that’s just who we know of and has reached out.  The what to pack for Spring Break in Europe question is causing some serious angst, so we’re here to help! And we figured it was the making of a well-needed blog post to boot.

When traveling to Europe the goal is to be comfortable and chic, while somewhat blending in with the natives so you’re not sticking out like a sore thumb…

Loungewear and good ole’ pajamas.

What can we say, everyone needs a little loungewear in their life. Or, depending on the kind of homebody you are, maybe you need a lot. It’s been at the forefront of our minds lately too. If you follow Insta-stories, you’ve seen it’s the first thing Hallie does when she gets home from a long day. She throws off her street clothes and puts on the cozy loungewear.  And, Elana has been stuck at home for a few weeks with a bad back, so pajamas have become her new uniform.  And really, who doesn’t love a Sunday in cozy pajamas or loungewear! The days where you get to drink coffee in bed and might not brush your teeth until noon. Those are the days that call for the good stuff.

Scenarios for why having good loungewear on hand is a good idea…

-The Fed-Ex man shows up at your door in the morning. You don’t want to turn 50 shades of red out of embarrassment for what you might or might not have on.

-Your teenage children have friends sleep over. Wearing a decent pair of pajamas or loungewear won’t mortify you or them if asked to make pancakes at the last minute.

-Driving carpool in the morning. What if you get pulled over in ratty old jammies? Yikes! Wearing the good stuff is a much better idea than driving in those old holey t-shirts and bottoms.

-Unannounced visits from friends when you haven’t gotten totally dressed.
