Girl Crush - Sharon Tal
Sharon Tal
I originally wrote about Sharon Tal back in 2017. I was intrigued by her story and totally taken with her clothing designs. Who knew that a girl crush blog post would turn into a true and meaningful friendship? We’ve actually gotten to see each other multiple times in the last two years – with her trips to the US and mine to Israel (to visit my son that’s living there) we’ve possibly seen each other more than friends that live much closer. Two years later, Sharon’s talent, drive, and humility inspire me even more.
And to top it all, the few pieces of Maskit I have in my wardrobe are truly my go-to favorites. They’re the pieces I put on when I want to feel special and chic yet classic. They never disappoint.
I’m thrilled Sharon will be back in Cleveland, TOMORROW, Friday, May 17 with her new collection as well as her classic Maskit pieces. PLEASE COME!!! It’s a 1 day only trunk show pop up. 10 am - 4 pm and I’ll be there ALL DAY.
Flash Back
Here’s the original post from 2 years ago to give you a history of Sharon, the Maskit brand and to see how my writing has evolved too, lol!
Sharon Tal is a fashion design rockstar. She has worked for Alber Elbaz at Lanvin and for fashion legend Alexander McQueen and now Sharon’s the driving force behind the revitalization of Maskit, the first and only Israeli fashion house.
This Girl Crush is MAJOR for us you guys – and, honestly, we’re a little awestruck. This is the convergence of like all things we hold dear – fashion, female empowerment, and Israel – Hallie and Elana’s favorite place on earth – in fact, we were there together in 2011 with JWRP!
Maskit – the Story behind the Brand
The clothing coming out of Maskit seems to achieve that delicate balance of effortless elegance. It’s current but yet classic. Chic, but wearable. Detailed, but not overly tchotchke. Maskit is sold in Israel and through TRUNK SHOWS in the USA. And they also have an e-commerce site. Back in its heyday, the label collaborated with designers like Dior, YSL and Givenchy and was available at Saks, Bergdorfs, and Neimans – MAJOR. right?!?
Quick History
Ok, ok. We’ll give you a quickie history lesson…The brand was founded in 1954 by Ruth Dayan (widow of Moshe Dayan) in the spirit of social entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment. It allowed Dayan to create jobs for new immigrants while preserving the ethnic crafts and cultures of the various communities living in Israel. After many years of success and international recognition, Maskit closed it’s doors in 1994 after it had become privatized. Nearly a decade later Sharon Tal committed to reviving the iconic Israeli label with 99-year-old Ruth’s blessing and mentorship.
Coming to Cleveland
Great story, right? Well, guess what? If you live in Cleveland, you can meet Sharon AND see the Maskit line for yourself IN PERSON! Yup, our girl crush is coming t the CLE!
Sharon let us in on her 5 favorite things… Check them out and we think you’ll be crushing hard – btw, totally picking up that body cream ASAP! Oh, and the desert coat too….
Sharon’s Top 5
1. My favorite piece in my closet
The Maskit desert coat – there’s no way I’m leaving the house without it… it’s the iconic item of Maskit since 1954. It’s light but still, very warming, easy going but dressy. And the chicest item I have in my closet.
2. My favorite restaurant in Israel
I love going to Montifiore Hotel for breakfast or dinner. First the food is great, and second, it captures the energy of Tel Aviv. A place that combines the right local people with the elite of the tourists. It’s based in the heart of Tel Aviv.
3. The best body cream
I’m obsessed with Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream. I live in Israel and travel a lot. This cream keeps my skin looking fresh all day long.
4. My favorite lipstick
MAC Cremesheen Peach Blossom I’m not a make-up kind of girl, but this lipstick with its natural color is always in my purse.
5. My signature scent
Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia. It’s always fresh and stays on me for long hours.
