Happy New Year you guys! I’m excited for 2017 and I am so sorry I skipped out on posting last week… Honestly between family, the flu and a torn up kitchen I just couldn’t, I mean, I WAS DONZZO. But, regular weekly blog posts are one of my goals for 2017 – #goals! 2017 has new and exciting things happening at The Wardrobe Consultant – think re-vamped website, a shop by category feature, vacation packing and closet organization services and a new blog contributor, self-procalimed “shopaholic” Elana Mintz.
Elana Mintz, my TWC side kick, is one of my biggest girl crushes – she’s got a keen eye, a heart of gold and THE CLEANEST, MOST ORGANIZED CLOSET I have ever seen! I couldn’t be more excited to have her as part of The Wardrobe Consultant team and for her to share her story with you…
Confessions of a Shopaholic
People ask me time, and time again how I met Hallie. Let me share my story with you…
A closet full of clothes
I had a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. I mean, can you relate, or what? But the thing is, I was dressed. I was managing to pull it together. I wasn’t doing preschool drop off in my gym clothes. That’s just not my thing. I guess you can say that’s my schtick. Oh, and by the way, if you DO drop off in your gym clothes, I don’t judge!! Everyone has their thing.
So, back to it. I had a closet full of clothing and was stressed every morning about getting dressed. I’d stand staring at my clothes almost wishing that my mom would just pick them out for me like she did when I was a little girl. Wouldn’t that be so much easier? One morning I was telling my friend at drop off about my wardrobe woes. She told me she had just the gal. Hallie Abrams, The Wardrobe Consultant! She will take all of the stress out of getting dressed. Hum?? Really? Ok, I’ll call her. I hesitated for two weeks. Did I really want someone judging my clothes, my body, my closet? I’m not a size 2. I’m far from it actually. I was nervous about the size of my tush, the junk in my trunk, and what Hallie might think. I was nervous that maybe my clothes weren’t cool enough. And, I was nervous that my closet wasn’t clean and organized enough. Ha!! (I’ll get to that part.) But most of all, I was nervous about the investment that I was about to make in the service. Was it going to be worth it? I’ll get to that part too. Don’t you love a good cliff hanger?
For every event I bought something new…
I’ve always had a passion for shopping. You might say that shopping is my sport. I have a good eye. For me, it doesn’t have to be expensive, but it has to look good. I’ve always been able to achieve that with my pieces. The problem was I kept buying pieces. Pieces that had no parts. As Hallie says, frosting. I lacked the basics to round them out. That was my problem. Like every single time I had an event, I bought something to wear. It was ridiculous, and expensive!
Putting all my vulnerabilities aside, I called Hallie. She explained it’s my news to share with others. It’s a no judgment zone, and it’s an investment that pays for itself. And boy did it!!!! I also had some anxiety about what she might think of my closet, and that’s the funniest part, because I’m nuts. I’m OCD nuts. I found out later that my closet was the neatest thing she’d ever seen. A teeny tiny closet organized from top to bottom, color coded, organized by season, and everything in between. Which, is how I ended up with this gig. Remember, Hallie likes to call me The Closet Whisperer.
Hallie gave me “the rules” and it saved me money”
So, Hallie and I had our first “date”. That’s what she calls it because that is kind of what it is – getting a sense of each other, on a sort of intimate level, so to speak, to see if it’s a good match. Here was the number 1 rule Hallie gave me. Shop with purpose. Her rule for my shopping trips would be, “it must go back to three things in your closet. If it doesn’t then, BU-BYE”. Shopping with purpose saved me so much money. You have no idea! I had complete outfits to wear, multiple ways, for multiple occasions.
After a few years of “dating” Hallie, and mastering the rules, I told Hallie that if she ever needed an OCD side kick I’d love the gig. Well, low and behold…I’m her side kick! The coolest part is that I’ve put something that could’ve been bad (my crazy OCD, and the over the top shopping thing) to really good use. I love it!! Pinch me please.
I’m so excited to share some of my favorite pieces of the moment, and the parts to go with them. All of the pieces and parts can mix and match and make a little capsule wardrobe. Let me know which ones you love. And in the words of Hallie, “Happy Shopping you guys!”
Elana (aka The Closet Whisper)
I’m obsessed with the leather legging thing. Basic with a touch of edginess. A must for the winter.
The camel color of this long cardigan makes this so rich! And would pair back very nicely to those new leather leggings.
Every gal needs a cool graphic T and I scooped up this one in Nashville a few weeks ago. Visit emersongracenashville.com. You won’t be disappointed. And again, add it to the leather leggings and cardi and you have a complete outfit.
Dirty black distressed denim…add it to your rotation, it’s a staple.
I think these pants look so comfortable and cool. Bonus, if you eat too much you have an adjustable drawstring.
The jewel tone of this sweater is so pretty. Best part, the lace up sides take it from basic to bellissimo.
This top is so lady like. It’s perfect under a jacket, or cardi, and totally cute enough to wear on its own.
I love this dress! It’s sorta basic on the hanger, but it’s fantastic on the bod. Especially one with booty. Couldn’t resist the cold shoulder either.
If you know me, you know I’m a sneaker girl. I love this simple white one with the awesome black swoosh.
This could be the only bootie you need for this winter.
Grab this scarf now, it’s on sale.
I flip for antique looking jewelry, and this piece is the icing on the cake.
My gal Elana is good. Don’t you think? Love having her as part of the team and as a blog contributor too! And, did you like getting the client P.O.V?
And, in case you were wondering, yes, her closet is really THAT immaculate, and guess what? Now mine is too! And yours could be also. just sayin’…
Happy 2017 you guys!
xo xo, Hallie
