Work Bags that you’d Happily Carry Off Duty too.
We’ve had a few clients on the hunt recently for work bags. You know the kind of bag that can hold your laptop, makeup, wallet, phone, spare chargers, snacks, and feminine hygiene if needed. BUT also still look stylish if you need to carry said bag to after work drinks or dinner. And a big bonus if the bag is chic enough to carry when off duty and the laptop is at home charging. That’s a tall order but we searched and searched and guess what? We found some real winners.
What Elements does a Chic Work Bag need to have?
-A work bag needs to hold a crap ton of stuff
-The handles need to be sturdy to hold all that stuff
-The bag must be LIGHTWEIGHT when empty (if not, when you put in all that stuff you’ll break your back for sure)
-It needs to look professional (like not Vera Bradley print busy) but also not like an old man’s briefcase.

Sephora Sale – What to Get at the BIG Event!
The Sephora Sale is their HUGE beauty insider event, going on right now! It’s sort of like the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for Beauty junkies. Remember how crazy everyone gets about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale? Now it’s the beauty obsessives turn. BTW, many of the Nordy items we had blogged about that sold out are NOW RESTOCKED AND ON SALE AGAIN! Here are links to our Nordy Sale roundups to help you sort thru if you want to try again. Hallie’s Picks, Elana’s Picks, Paris’ Picks (Sale prices will show up with these links, don’t worry)
Ok, back to beauty!! The Sephora sale discount amount is dependent on your Sephora membership status (meaning how much you spend a year) Signing up to be an insider is free – many of you may already be insiders like me but have never used it online. When I shop Sephora in person I just give them my phone # and they keep track of what I’ve spent and typically offer me a gift at checkout. But because of this event, I signed up online for the program to be linked (click here) and then, depending on how much you spend there annually, you are leveled into different categories with different benefits.
Public Access Starts TODAY!
Homecoming Dresses for the Win
School has started (Thank G-d). And if you have a high schooler, specifically a high school girl, she’s got ONE thing on her mind… where they’re going to find their homecoming dresses. I know this is true because my daughter has been talking about it ad nauseam, as have her friends, as have clients and readers who have been reaching out looking for suggestions about where to find their homecoming dresses. I gotta be real here though, I am struggling with finding a homecoming dress for my daughter. Ironic right? Like this is my job! But when it comes to family it can get complicated. In past years, honestly, I’ve been a little judgy looking at girls homecoming and prom photos. When I see them half naked, posing in all their glory, I’ve thought to myself (and heard from others) how could their parents let them go out of the house like that?!? But this year, with a daughter in high school, it’s my turn to eat crow. Because what she likes and sees as good looking, and what I like are not totally the same! Let’s just say karma’s a bitch baby.
They’re Basically Naked
I have a non-psychological, psychological analysis as it relates to homecoming dresses…
Anthropologie, There’s a lot to Love right now
Back in June, I wandered into our local Anthropologie and actually walked out with a big old bag of clothes! For myself that is! That doesn’t usually happen for me there. The Anthro aesthetic is somewhat girly and romantic and that’s not typically how I’d describe my vibe. Don’t get me wrong, I have a ton of success there with my clients whose style falls in the elevated boho and feminine realm. But for me, personally, the pieces never really become part of my repertoire… Until now.
I’m not sure if they’ve changed or I have…I used to go into Anthro and everything I put on felt like I was wearing a costume. Again, I loved it on other people, but I felt like I couldn’t pull it off. In the last couple of seasons though, the collections feel a little more toned down and tailored. Some things even border on edgy. At the same time, my horizons are expanding. Adding details like color and patterns seems fresh these days. My inner boho has been set free!!
Basically, I’ve been living in (and loving) my haul from earlier this summer. The good news is many of the items are still available AND a lot are even on sale!! Stores are gearing up for fall with cashmere and cords, but there’s a lot of warmer weather still to be had, even for those of us that live in the snow belt!

What is Reformation?
I was in NYC a few weeks ago with my daughter and her friend and we spent a few hours at the Reformation store in SoHo. The clothing there has a vintage vibe that’s super current (if that’s not an oxymoron, I don’t know what it…). More importantly, It’s a store that my teenage daughter and I can both agree on in terms of appropriateness, cool factor and ethos.
A Store for BOTH Mom and Teen
We were pleasantly surprised to find things we BOTH will wear at Reformation. And, that’s not always easy. She doesn’t want to look like a middle aged mom (understandably), and I don’t want to look like that middle aged mom trying to look like a teenager. Sadly, we’ve all seen that before, and it ain’t pretty. Reformation is kind of that perfect middle ground. And the price point is in the $30 – $200 range for most items, so while slightly indulgent for my daughter, the price doesn’t make me want to puke either.
If I had to explain Reformation, I’d call it ethical fast fashion.
Reformation is true fast fashion. Typically stores/clothing lines take 12-18 months to develop a piece from sketch to store. At Reformation, a sketch can become a dress in about a month. Meaning they’re designing and making what we want to wear NOW!
And, it’s ethical. They make their pieces from sustainable materials like…
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks from a Style Savvy 22 year old
By now you’ve probably seen both Hallie and Elana’s picks from the Nordstrom Sale. But what if you’re reading this and you’re in your 20’s, and our “old lady” picks aren’t relevant to you? Or, what if you’re looking to get something from the #NSale for your 20 something daughter, or granddaughter? Well, our super cool, summer intern, Paris, from Kent State University, is doing a blog take over this week and she’s going to share what’s hot (and not) from her POV.
A Little About Paris
