Spring 2021 Hot List Favorites

Welcome to the Spring 2021 Hallie’s Hot List! Compiling this list brings me such joy! It allows me to share some of my favorite things that might not fall directly into the category of wardrobe stuff. I’ve been running these lists for a while now… and I’m always curious about what items you’ve plucked from the list and how you feel about them. Please share either in the comments or tag me on social media to let me know. I feel like one of the all-time favorites is the collapsable water hose! And since spring is OTW, it definitely makes sense to mention it again, because you know, watering plants, flowers and all…

So, without further adieu – the latest from the spring hot list

December Hot List

When I publish a hot list as my weekly post, It can feel like a cop-out.  I’m not saying it’s rational thinking. Most likely, it’s coming from a place of insecurity. The struggle to find creative inspiration these days is REAL.  I fill my creative cup through travel, people watching, theater, and overall human interaction. All of which are sorely lacking in my life these days. Thanks, Covid!  Really, I’m not complaining, at least I’m working really hard not to. I am grateful beyond measure for my health and the health of those I love. But the isolation is taking a toll. I feel boring and I’m bored.

It’s the same feeling I had as a kid when I stayed home sick from school for more than a few days. By the end, when my friends would call to give updates on the school drama I missed, they’d ask what was going on with me. And my response was like… umm nothing. On General Hospital this happened and on Phil Donahue, this happened, but to me, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. I’ve been sleeping, reading, and sitting on the couch. Boring! Yup, that’s exactly how I feel right now – except I’m the one doing the cooking and cleaning and there are more TV channels to report on (the jury is still out on if that’s a good or bad thing).

Basically, the majority of my inspo this week (actually this year) is coming from the small screen – when you see my hot list picks, you’ll understand!!

The Importance of Shopping Local

When everyone first went on Covid lockdown, there was a meme floating around the internet. It went something like this: “Remember all of the local small businesses that you’ve asked for years and years to donate and sponsor your sports clubs, school events, organizations, etc.? It’s time to support them. They’re the heart of our town.”

Even in the best of times, there’s a motivation to shop local. And in tough times like these, shopping locally becomes an absolute necessity. Dare I say a community obligation. I’m not suggesting you buy things you don’t want or need out of guilt. Instead, my plea is to try and shop here before choosing to spend your dollars online.

Shopping Local Takes Some Effort

Shopping locally can be categorized under things we all agree are essential but don’t always do. A practice that, in theory, we want to embrace. But when it comes to putting it into action, compliance levels are iffy. I liken it to recycling, eating fruits and vegetables, or even using clean beauty. We know it would be better if we were diligent, making the habit part of our regular routines, but more often than not, we don’t.

Well, at least I don’t. I don’t know about you…

Hallie’s Hot List – August Edition

I think I forgot to do a hot list in July…oops. Meaning the last one was a June Hot List.  This summer had gone both very quickly and at the same time, extremely slow, like crawling. So my sense of time and space is kinda warped. Anyway, my mistake means the August Hot List needs to be a really good one… Don’t worry, it is!

Instagram is often the place I share the new items I’m trying and really love, but I realized that info might not get shared here, with all of you. So here’s my hot list of current obsessions for August 2020.

Hallie’s Hot List – June Edition

It’s summa, summa, summa time! Yahoo, right?!? And raise your hand if you got that Fresh Prince reference. I linked the music video for either nostalgia or education, depending on that hand raise, LOL!  The Hallie’s Hot List, June edition is focusing on the things I’m loving now that the weather has turned warm. It’s full of fun in the sun goodies that are vetted by me, tried and true.

Think, sunscreen, bathing suit coverups, sun hats, sundresses… You know, the things we all need and use this time of year but that can be hard to know what really works or not until you try.

What’s on the Hot List for June?

What’s Hallie’s Hot List?

Back when I started my blog I had a feature called Hallie’s Hot List. Think of it as my version of Oprah’s favorite things (but without the car giveaway – lol). It was really well received and I have no idea, at all, why I stopped doing it. But I feel like the time has come to resurrect it.

For example, when you have (or had if you’re still in quarantine) coffee with your friends and you, or they,  share some awesome things they found and that “changed their life”. Well, that’s what the hotlist is…  Things I use and love, or that my friends use and love. It’s the ultimate form of word of mouth, and therefore worthy of a relaunch.

In the virtual closet class I’m co-teaching, we ask the participants to share their favorite things. It’s been so fun finding out about other people’s tried and true items. And after a few classes, with some rock star women, Hallie’s Hot List has compiled a nice collection of favorites that, above all, have been vetted by ladies I trust.

Mother’s Day Gifts

Ladies can be super hard to buy gifts for. And mom’s in particular. Yes, we say we are happy with a handmade card or breakfast in bed. And we are. But, trust me, the effort of actually getting a gift for mom, especially at this time in history, when we are all cooped up, can make all the difference.

And if there are any guys reading this, ORDER SOMETHING NOW! The gifts your kids usually make in school and bring home are not happening this year – just FYI.

As women, we put our families first. And right now there is either a lot of cooking and cleaning happening (omg, in my house there is SO MUCH LAUNDRY!!). Or things are sort of lonely when you can’t see your loved ones because of quarantine. Neither is ideal, but it’s our collective reality.

Any way you slice it, we ladies need props. This is the time to cheer up the lady or ladies in your life. Mother’s Day, birthdays, just because I love you days. With health worries, and family worries, and money and job worries – you can spend a little or a lot and she’ll love it either way. Here are some gift ideas at all different price points I’m confident she’s gonna love.

You guys voted – and Reader Round-Up It Is!!

I’m not sure I can properly describe how thankful I am for the Instagram/Facebook/Blog community we’ve created together. Last week I put a call out for your suggestions as to what you’re making, reading and watching while we are all on lockdown and boy did we generate a kick a** reader round-up list!

And, not to be picky or anything but, the cleaning gadgets suggestions were a little lame, just sayin’…  it’s possible that I’m the only one looking for cleaning shortcuts right now. I keep feeling like Cinderella, from the beginning of the fairytale, and I’m searching desperately for those magic mice to help out!

Can Shelter in Place be a Happy Time?

Happy Shelter in Place week 3… That’s how an email exchange from one of my clients started. And I’ve been thinking about it. It’s not that I’m unhappy, per se, but rather that I’m uncertain. And that uncertainty is leaving me VERY unmotivated and uninspired creatively.

For instance, I have NO IDEA what to write about this week. All of the content I had lined up for you seems irrelevant and unimportant in light of the pandemic and subsequent isolation we are all facing. And so as I’m procrastinating writing (hello, I mean I have nothing else to do except clean toilets) I’m thinking about what I’d want to see if I were you reading this…And the answer is I JUST DON’T KNOW.

Even though stores are having CRAZY sales right now (like Nordstrom 40% off,  JCrew 40 % off, Madwell 30% off, Saks 25% off) it personally feels weird to shop for clothes right now considering there’s nowhere to go.

Making the Most of It…
