The Easiest Way to Transition into Fall

I’ve seen it called Burnt Orange, Spice, Cooper, Sugar Almond, Dark Nutmeg and Cognac, just to name a few. But the bottom line is that this warm, spicy, terracotta color is THE COLOR TO ADD THIS SEASON! It’s a warm and earthy burnt orange color and it’s perfect for fall, but it’s also a color you can start wearing RIGHT NOW.

Personally, I’m in denial that fall is around the corner…to me it feels like summer just started, doesn’t it? How it’s possible my kids go back to school in a few weeks I don’t know. TBH, I’m kind of dreading it but also kind of excited for them to be back on a schedule. Anyone else feel me on that?? Anyway, back to the topic at hand, HOW TO WEAR BURNT ORANGE RIGHT NOW AND THEN INTO FALL.

It’s Like the Color MVP

Wear burnt orange right now – it looks great with ivory, white and chambray, even in the heat of summer.  And then as the season transitions, it looks fabulous with black, grey and camel as well as pink, blue and red. And if you’re not color adverse, it looks amazeballs with red and yellow together – it grounds them in a softer way than black. It’s like the ultimate go with everything color.

Why A Utility Jacket?

A utility jacket is an uber useful piece in a well-edited wardrobe. Why? Because a utility jacket is like the understudy to the jean jacket. Just like a denim jacket, it isn’t too dressy and it isn’t too casual. It has the power to take “dressy” things down a notch AND to make “casual” things feel more elevated.

Sometimes, when Elana’s not available, I’ll bring the super creative and stylish Nancy (aka Fancy Nancy) to assist with clients. She jokes that her solution to making all outfits work is to “just throw a jean jacket on” and you instantly feel cool. Truthfully, Nancy is right – it’s a pretty magical piece! Now, I have to ask her if she feels the same way about a utility jacket. I’m thinking she probably does.

Your New Wardrobe BFF

Let’s say you already have a jean jacket (or two) and you wear the heck out of it – as you should because of all the reasons I stated above. You’ve got a dark wash and a light wash both covered, maybe even a cropped version and they fit perfectly into your “uniform”. But you’re getting a little tired and want to change things up a bit. THEN THE UTILITY JACKET WILL BE YOUR NEW BFF!

How to wear a Utility Jacket

Literally, you just need to swap out your jean jacket for a utility jacket and you’re all set. It’s that easy! Shorts and a t-shirt? YES. Over a sundress? YES. Over athleisure? YES. Over a whole black outfit? YES.

And the best part is when you’re wearing actual jeans, you don’t have the question about should I double jean or not?? When you wear a utility jacket it’s a non-issue – woot-woot!

A Woven Bag  – Your Most Versatile Accessory This Summer

Back in the spring, I ordered an adorable little woven bag from Shopbop and I took it to one of our blog and IG photoshoots. I was surprised, but not really, how that woven bag went with almost every outfit we had planned for the day!  It was neutral and fresh and it felt like it lightened up each outfit we put it with.

Fast forward to today, and I am still wearing it, like daily, along with one other woven bag I received from Causebox. Basically, it’s just the two of them on repeat. That’s my summer bag uniform.

When I add a woven bag to my tried and true outfits from last summer, like my army green pants and white top or my goto day dress – the bag makes my old stuff feel new!! Now that’s what a great accessory is meant to do!!

The Nordstrom Sale

Don’t Buy it Just Because it’s on Sale

I have a rule about sales and it’s true for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale too. If you wouldn’t buy it at full price than don’t buy it on sale. For real. I can’t tell you how many peoples closets I’ve been in where there are clothes hanging with a tag still on them (like they’ve NEVER BEEN WORN!!) because “it was on sale”.

Bottom line, it’s not a deal if you’re not going to wear it or use it.

The great part about buying it from Nordstrom is that they pride themselves on customer service and have a very generous return policy. So, if you decide you don’t really like it, with Nordstrom, you can always return it.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and The Don’t Waste Your Time…

Nordstrom Sale – What to Get

I LOOOVE that you guys gave me ideas on IG as to what you wanted to see from the big old Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year. And as I said over on stories, I have a bit of #NSale fatigue this year. And it seems about half of you do too.

It may just be that I have summer brain (aka vacation) and a bit there is so much noise out there regarding this sale (sensory overload, like every blogger and their brother, and mother are talking and posting about it – so it feels saturated)

So my thought is this… to keep it short and sweet. And well organized so it is easy to shop.

I’m organizing my picks into 3 categories.

-CLASSICS –  Items I already own, love and stock up on at the sale
-TRY ON SESH – Items I saw in person and tried on
-Fall 2019 “trendy” pieces to add
If you want the low down on men, beauty, etc just let me know – I saw some good things but seriously don’t want to overwhelm.

Army Green Pants

If there is one pant you need to add to your wardrobe this season it’s an army green pant! For real! Mark my words you guys… We knew there was something going on when Elana and I both showed up to work one day in almost matching Nili Lotan pairs last summer. We’ve been styling the heck out of them ourselves and for clients ever since. And the army green love fest is not slowing down.

Notice I said an army green pant NOT a cargo pant. It could be a green cargo or a green wide leg, or a green chino style. That’s the beauty of it – it’s about the color NOT the style per se. So there really is a pant out there that can fit every age, body and price. And, I promise you, you’ll be surprised how often you wear them. And how put together you feel in them too.
