Sale. Sales. Sales.

There are a gazillion fabulous sales going on right now and specifically, the Shopbop sale is just beginning. It’s a great way to save money. Quite a bit in fact, because many of the sales are a buy more, save more concept. However, it can be overwhelming as well. Too many choices can be paralyzing. Sometimes less is more… So let me help narrow it down for you… And offer a few tips on how to best shop online sales.

How to Shop On-Line Sales:

READ THE FINE PRINT! Make sure to see when the sale ends. And the return policy.
SKIP IT IF IT’S FINAL SALE. Unless you’ve tried the item and know your size, without a doubt. If not, it’ll be yours, like it or not.
KEEP A FAVORITES FOLDER. Most stores allow you to “heart” or “favorite” an item. That way you can keep an eye on it and grab it when it goes on sale.
ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS BEFORE HITTING PURCHASE. Would you buy it for full price? Can you think of 3 ways to wear it with items you already have? When you walk away from the computer, can you not stop thinking about it?  If you answer yes, then ADD TO CART!
BUY A FEW SIZES AND RETURN WHAT DOESN’T FIT.  Items go fast during a sale. As long as things are returnable, I recommend getting a few sizes (if you’re unsure of the fit) and returning those that didn’t work. If you wait to exchange, chances are it might be sold out.
It’s All About the Timing

Summer is HERE

Next week is Memorial Day. Summer is officially starting. And our calendars are actually filling up, so we need to get dressed to see people, not just from the waist up!

I was invited into the J Crew store at Pinecrest (Orange, Ohio). And let’s just say, what I thought was going to be an hour stop, turned into a 3-hour try-on!  There was a lot of everything – swim, occasion dresses, day dresses, jeans, workwear, shorts – and it was all REALLY good.

We know J Crew has had its ups and downs in recent years. However, my feeling after the past few collections is that they are certainly on track. The pieces were, wearable, well made, fitting generally true to size (and btw, I’ll let you know what size I took in everything so you’ll know if it runs big or small). As well as pieces that mixed and matched to meet most aspects of a busy woman’s life.

I even Tried on Bathing Suits for you!

Because summer is basically here, and I love you guys. And know how torturous it is to try on swimsuits, I did the heavy lifting for you. I tried on a bunch of suits and even photographed myself in them – yikes! Yes, I want props for this! I don’t even have a tan!!

Anyway, if you’re able to get to the Pinecrest store, it’s worth the trip. The Pinecrest J Crew is one of 6 in the country to get a full assortment of merchandise – meaning more cashmere, more dresses, more new styles on the floor than most other locations. In fact, sometimes I find things in store that are not even online yet – like the rust jumpsuit – I can’t link it yet! When I can I will.

There’s a little of everything! And be sure to follow my Instagram Story today – I’m sharing the BTS of the try-on. Complete with fit assessments, tweaks I made or would make, and what else I’d wear it with.

I am CRAVING Color

I don’t know if it’s all the zooming or the depressing state of the world, but I am literally craving color right now. Yes, I’ll always be loyal to my all black, city chic looks. And I’m also not hating the whole neutral, monochromatic thing. In fact, I think it’s uber-sophisticated. But color gives everything life – it’s like adding salt to a bland dish.
Think about it. When you’re on a zoom, or watching TV, the folks that pop, and look cheery and healthy are those wearing color. Admit it, I’m right!! Adding even a little color to your outfit makes a world of difference.
And, on top of that, color makes people happy – it’s an instant (and safe) bad mood pick me up.

Even if You’re Color Adverse

I know for many of my color adverse readers this is gonna rock your comfort zone, but hear me out…
Adding just one piece that has some hue to it changes up your whole outfit – and hence your whole outlook!! If you’re brave and bold, rock it from head to toe. Does wearing color typically makes you feel like a clown? Then consider adding just one colorful item to your ensemble and see how it feels.

J Crew, Classics with a Twist

A couple of weeks ago our local J Crew asked me to come in and do some styling on the spot.  As a J Crew junkie that fell out of love during the last few years, I was excited about it for a few reasons…

1. I love meeting all of you guys IRL (in real life)

2. I’m in my zone when I’m styling someone or there’s a fashion challenge that needs to be fixed (like what do I wear with this?? or what do I wear to my high school reunion, a funeral, a work presentation, my kids’ soccer game – you get the idea)

3. And, I was able to get all up close and personal with J Crew’s latest collection – it’s the first collection with new head designer, Chris Benz (who originally worked at J Crew under Jenna Lyons back in the day).

Like J Crew Back in its Heyday

I’m happy to say this new collection gives me all of the classic J Crew feels, but updated for 2020. For a while, after Jenna Lyons left, it was like J Crew lost its identity, and quite frankly the quality seemed to plummet as well. But, this collection is back on track. Yay for us all!

Spring Wardrobe Refresh – Add Lavender and Yellow

Last week we talked about giving your wardrobe a refresh this spring, without spending a boat load of money.  (Here it is just in case you missed it.) Another easy way to refresh this spring, and make things feel updated is by adding a few key colors. Even if you’re a tried and true neutrals fan, meaning most of your closet is black, white, grey, and tan, adding some pops of color can be fun, and make you feel all springy and stuff. Spring is typically about bright florals which give that “spring is here” feel, and this season is no different – in fact,  the floral dresses available are abundant and fabulous. Hallie loves, this one,  this one and this one too. But, this season, in addition to florals, we’re gravitating towards a few particular colors, and so are the fashion gods. So we are listening…

There are two colors we recommend adding to freshen up your wardrobe this season.  Yellow and Lavender. Adding either color is an easy update whether you choose to add it as an accessory, a dress or as a whole suit.  Both colors are very cool, brighten up a day (and a complexion) and are available in stores right now!

Mellow Yellow and Lovely Lavender-THE colors to add.

Since you don’t want to walk out of the house looking like rainbow bright, it’s good to know that, both yellow and lavender play nicely with your tried and true neutrals. They’ll both pair back to just about anything you already own making it really easy to update without investing a lot. Initially, you might think we’re crazy and that these colors are hard to mix in, but on the contrary. They are ultra easy to incorporate…

A TWC Tip

Hey, and a little TWC tip…IF you think you can’t wear yellow, you’re WRONG! Here’s how…
