Shop Your Closet.

Once upon a time (like 8 years ago) I (Elana) had way too much in my closet, but still felt the need to shop every time I had an event. I’d run out and buy something new. But, then I started working with Hallie (as a client – I fessed up to it all here). Hallie was like my knight in shining armor (well,  shining accessories) and rescued me. She taught me how to shop my own closet BEFORE going out to shop.  I was surprised to find out I had plenty of pieces that could be paired back to other pieces creating new and interesting outfits, but back then I had no idea how to do it. That’s how so many of our clients feel initially. Learning to shop my closet was a total game changer, and gone are the days that I shop every single time I have an event.

Now that I work with Hallie, I get to help clients learn the art of shopping their own closets first!!

No need to shop the stores, shop your closet first!

Here’s the thing, and it’s key to learning to shop your closet…

Spring Wardrobe Refresh – Add Lavender and Yellow

Last week we talked about giving your wardrobe a refresh this spring, without spending a boat load of money.  (Here it is just in case you missed it.) Another easy way to refresh this spring, and make things feel updated is by adding a few key colors. Even if you’re a tried and true neutrals fan, meaning most of your closet is black, white, grey, and tan, adding some pops of color can be fun, and make you feel all springy and stuff. Spring is typically about bright florals which give that “spring is here” feel, and this season is no different – in fact,  the floral dresses available are abundant and fabulous. Hallie loves, this one,  this one and this one too. But, this season, in addition to florals, we’re gravitating towards a few particular colors, and so are the fashion gods. So we are listening…

There are two colors we recommend adding to freshen up your wardrobe this season.  Yellow and Lavender. Adding either color is an easy update whether you choose to add it as an accessory, a dress or as a whole suit.  Both colors are very cool, brighten up a day (and a complexion) and are available in stores right now!

Mellow Yellow and Lovely Lavender-THE colors to add.

Since you don’t want to walk out of the house looking like rainbow bright, it’s good to know that, both yellow and lavender play nicely with your tried and true neutrals. They’ll both pair back to just about anything you already own making it really easy to update without investing a lot. Initially, you might think we’re crazy and that these colors are hard to mix in, but on the contrary. They are ultra easy to incorporate…

A TWC Tip

Hey, and a little TWC tip…IF you think you can’t wear yellow, you’re WRONG! Here’s how…

Black Pumps, Boring But Necessary.

Black  pumps. Are they boring? Kind of. But, are they necessary? Yes! This is one of those needs vs. wants things.  In the food pyramid of clothing,  a plain black pump falls into the veggie category, not the sweets category. Nobody really wants to eat them, but they need them to sustain a healthy body. Eating sweets would be way more fun. And the same goes for the black pump.

Most people don’t really want spend a chunk of their clothing budget on a “boring” shoe like the black pump, but it’s a building block in your wardrobe. In fact, if you invest in a plain black pump now it’ll save you money in the future. With the black pumps we’re talking about, you probably won’t need a different black pump for every occasion. When you have a classic pump in your closet that goes with just about everything,  just like your veggies, it will take you further than a piece of cake.

Black pumps are versatile.

Time and again we meet with clients that are missing this key element in their wardrobe.  We’ve realized maybe it’s time to give the classic black pump a little PSA. It’s one of those pieces it pays to invest in.  It will end up being one of, IF NOT the most versatile shoe in your wardrobe. It goes with just about everything from jeans, to dresses. It’s that versatile, and a classic if chosen correctly.

Rules for picking a classic black pumps…
