New Year, New Decade and New Pantone Color!

Happy 2020 everyone! Before I talk about the Pantone Color of the year, a little new year tip… I heard that you need to be careful when dating your documents (checks, contracts, etc). Be sure to use the whole date 2020 and not just the abbreviated 20. Because that can easily be forged to 2015, 2011. I don’t know if this is true, or not. But I thought it was good info to keep in mind and pass along…

What Does the Pantone Color Even Mean??

Every year for the past 20 years, the Pantone Institute picks a COLOR OF THE YEAR. According to Wikipedia “Twice a year the company hosts, in a European capital, a secret meeting of representatives from various nations’ color standards groups. After two days of presentations and debate, they choose a color for the following year; for example, the color for summer 2013 was chosen in London in the spring of 2012”.   This color then influences fashion, home decor, floral design, graphic design, makeup, nail, and many other consumer-oriented products.

You might not have even consciously known about this whole Pantone Color of the Year thing. But, you may remember in certain years, particular colors become “popular.” And often that’s because it’s the Pantone Color that year. Like tangerine tango in 2012 or radiant orchid in 2014. In fact, one of my most favorite pair of shoes (for both comfort and fashion) is a pair of radiant orchid Jimmy Choo sandals from 2014. I still wear them and whenever I post a photo in them, you guys message me about a link for them… If only they still made them I’d be such a happy gal.

What are the Pantone colors for 2020?

Originally Pantone came out with their colors for spring/summer 2019/2020. At the top of the list was a classic red, yellow and blue. Flame scarlet, Saffron and Classic Blue to be exact. And at the 2020 Golden Globes, we saw those colors playing out on the red carpet.

If you weren’t invited to the Globes but do have a formal occasion on the calendar… I found some stunning dresses (at all prices) in all the Pantone colors.

Flame Scarlet Dresses

Saffron Dresses

Classic Blue Dresses

About a month ago The Pantone Institute officially named Classic Blue the 2020 Color of the Year.

“Based on what we saw happening in our global culture, we selected Pantone 19-4052, Classic Blue, to be our color of the year for 2020. ” Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, tells TIME. “It’s a reassuring blue, full of calm and confidence. It builds connection.” – Time Magazine

I couldn’t resist this ode to the Pantone Color Cerulean from The Devil Wears Prada.

Expect to see the classic blue shade popping up all around you in the next year. And when you see it happening, now you’ll know.

Happy 2020 you guys! I’m going to be asking you all for some input in the next few weeks about what you want to see more (or less) of here. And I’m thanking you in advance for participating.

Have a great week!
