Let’s talk about sales… They’re a very, very good thing - I mean who doesn’t like saving money, right? And yet, they can be dangerous. Because if a sale is not approached with first, the right mindset and second, a plan of attack then when you think you’re saving money, you’re actually throwing money away. Well, not technically throwing it away, more like allowing it to sit dormant in your closet and then donating it to your favorite charity, hopefully for a tax write off.
While I might sound like I’m being flip, I’m actually dead serious. There is a system and strategy when shopping a sale, and I'm here to share mine with you, in the hopes that your sale purchases will be well loved and well worn items in your wardrobe from here on out.
I only shop two sales every year - and the Shopbop Sale is one of them!
If you’ve been a long time reader (thank you!) you might be aware that I do not talk about retailer sales often. Yes, I might tell you about an item that’s on sale. But I am not calling out specific stores for their sales. That is except for two stores - The Nordstrom Sale (usually in late summer) and The Shopbop Sale (happening right now).
These are the only two sales I shop religiously every year. Why? Because these are the two sales that IMHO give you big bang for your buck, deliver quality brands I know and love AND are fair and realistic with their return policy for the sale. Also, with both of these sales, it is not just end of season leftovers, it is pieces that are for the current season and can be worn ASAP and into the future.

PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS
Check the sale's end date and return policy to avoid surprises.
AVOID FINAL SALE ITEMS
Unless you're certain about the size and fit, it's best to skip final sale items to prevent any regrets.
CREATE A WISHLIST
Use the "heart" or "favorite" feature to curate a list of items you're eyeing. Monitor these throughout the year, especially at Shopbop, to grab them when they go on sale.
ASK YOURSELF THESE CRUCIAL QUESTIONS BEFORE PURCHASING:
Would you consider buying it at full price?
Can you imagine 3 ways to style it with your existing wardrobe?
Does the item linger in your thoughts after leaving the computer?
If the answer is yes to all, go ahead and ADD TO CART!
ORDER MULTIPLE SIZES, RETURN THE REST
With high demand during sales, items sell out quickly. If you're unsure about sizing and the item is returnable, consider ordering multiple sizes and returning those that don't fit. Waiting to exchange might lead to disappointment.
