What to Get at the Summer Sales

Post 4th of July is usually the time in the fashion/retail calendar where the summer stuff goes on major sale. Why? Because stores are trying to clear things out to make way for fall merchandise. Even though this year has been anything but typical. The summer sales are still going strong. So it’s a great way to snag some key pieces at a deep discount.
Don’t Buy It Just Because It’s on Sale
However, my rule for styling clients, and that I’m sharing with you is: DO NOT BUY IT JUST BECAUSE IT’S ON SALE. An item isn’t a deal if it just sits in your closet. If it’s not adding, in a positive way to your wardrobe, it doesn’t belong there.
I can’t tell you the number of times I meet with a first time styling client for a wardrobe analysis and there are pieces STILL WITH TAGS! Meaning they have never worn it. And, 9 out of 10 times the reason is they got it on sale or at a discount store and it was such a good deal. BUT THEY HAVEN’T WORN IT – so, P.S. it’s not a good deal, it’s just money spent with no return on the investment and, in addition, it’s taking up valuable closet space. Ok, I’ll get off of my soapbox now and dish on the deals and steals I’ve found.

Pro tip: If you’re not sure about sizing and it’s final sale, order other items by that brand or the same item from other retailers to try for size before committing to final sale.
What to Get at the Summer Sales
Alice and Olivia
One of my favorite brands, especially for my petite gals. Contemporary and fun but not cutesy. Believe it or not, small ladies have a difficult time finding items that fit and don’t make them look juvenile. Alice and Olivia does a spectacular job. And when it’s on sale, especially up to 80% off, grab it!
Evereve
You know I have a love affair with Evereve – I’m one of their official #EvereveAmbassadors. They do cool casual clothes really well and at a fair price point. Not disposable cheap (like Forever 21) and not designer expensive (like Saks). There are quite a few pieces that can go to work as well, depending on your work environment. And when it’s summer sales time the savings are even more impressive.
Olivela
This is a true game-changing retail concept. How Olivela Works is very simple…You get to shop your favorite designer fashion and beauty brands (think equivalent to shopping Saks or Neimans) Olivela gives twenty percent of the proceeds of anything you purchase directly to one of their partner children’s charities. And at absolutely no additional cost to you. Brilliant, right?!?
Old Navy
I count on Old Navy’s Summer Sales. Some of my most beloved pieces are from Old Navy – the irony is that the quality is only ok, so I have to be very careful because I can’t easily replace them. In other words, it’s my Old Navy pieces that I hand wash!! An additional 30% off, even on clearance items – that means some things will be under $5!
All Saints
One of the best retailers for those with an edgy style. Up to 50% off sale styles and 15% off full-priced items if you’re new to the site. In other words, if you haven’t tried them yet, now’s the time.
Nordstrom
Everyone goes bananas over the Anniversary Sale (coming up August 13-30, 2020) BTW, be sure to get qualified for early access HERE. However, Nordy’s has a fabulous summer sale that included designer brands at up to 60% off.
Banana Republic
If you’re going back to work in an office environment, now’s a great time to stock up at Banana. Classic work attire with a modern twist. And HUGE summer sale savings right now (50% off sale and 40% off regular price items).
