Do you only work with people that are size 2?

Hellz no!! I work with REAL people of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Some are size 0, some size 14, some Petites and some 22W (and everything in between). Because, this is the deal, dressing to optimize your figure is just an optical illusion. NO ONE has a “perfect” figure, not even movie stars and models, they just know (or are advised) what to wear to play up the positives and create that proportional balance. I’m kind of a nerd and love figuring out the puzzle of what styles, shapes, colors, and fabrics will do that for you!

Do you only work with people that have big budgets?

Again, NO! I charge by the hour for my services and that’s the same across the board no matter what you spend on clothing. I work with clients with a vast range of budgets, and I’m just as happy to shop at T.J. Maxx and Target, as I am at Saks and Chanel. (Ok, there is a special thrill walking into Chanel, I can’t lie, but it’s for sure not a prerequisite for working together.)

What if my style doesn’t jive with your style?

Totally fair concern. My job is to help you find and embrace YOUR personal style, not mine. I work with people that are preppy, romantic, classic, artsy, edgy, trendy – really ALL DIFFERENT STYLES.   I take into account what you’re innately drawn to, as well as your lifestyle and budget and, together, we develop your personal style statement. It’s kind of like a mission statement for an organization, brief and to the point, and it guides you when you’re shopping and getting dressed. It also helps guide me to make sure I’m hitting the mark when styling outfits for you.

Where do you shop?

I’m an independent stylist and not affiliated with any particular store (and I don’t receive commission or kickbacks) – so I am your advocate and take you to stores I think will be a good match for your budget, body, taste, and life. Sometimes that’s department stores, sometimes boutiques, sometimes discount stores or consignment. I shop both online and in-person and have relationships with out of town boutiques that send special boxes to my clients. BUT before we do any retail shopping we SHOP YOUR CLOSET FIRST because that’s where the magic begins to happen.

I’m not at my desired weight and want to lose 5-10 lbs. Should I wait to work with you?

The definite answer is NO! I mean, you need to get dressed every day, right? Whether those pesky pounds come off, or not. And the reality is that our shape and proportions generally stay the same regardless of those few pounds (clothing size may change but the rules around what works for your body type and what doesn’t will remain constant.) And, in my experience, when a client feels good in what they’re wearing and their confidence is up, the motivation to achieve the goals (of losing weight or anything else) are more likely to happen. It’s a positive domino effect kind of thing.

“I don’t want you to see my closet, it’s such a mess and I’m embarrassed about what I have in my closet.”

The bottom line, this is a NO JUDGEMENT ZONE. Truth be told, my closet is often a disaster zone (I like to think it’s a shoemaker’s kids scenario, but that might just be justification). Everyone has different goals for working together, as well as different thresholds for organization. My job is to help you attain those goals NOT to judge what they are. And, btw, after over a decade of doing this, I’ve seen practically everything, so you can’t surprise me!

Can we keep this private? I don’t want anyone to know I’m working with you…

Yes, totally. It’s not my news to share, it’s yours. Some clients like to shout it from the rooftops and some don’t even tell their significant others. If and when you’re ready to share, I always appreciate a referral, which I think is the highest compliment of all – I don’t advertise and most of my clients are word of mouth – but, bottom line, it is for you to decide.

Do you work with people via Skype?

Actually, no. I don’t think true success can happen with this kind of service virtually. Skype and Facetime are amazing tools but nothing can take the place of an in-home closet analysis. I do have a network of stylists and consultants in other cities who I can recommend though, so please contact me and I will put you in touch.

Will you help me with home decorating? Or party planning?

Sorry, no. I specialize in wardrobe and clothing styling. I think there is something to be said for honing your skills in a specific area and focusing on your expertise and doing it really well. I do, however, have some darn good decorators and party planners who I can recommend.

Does signing up for your weekly blog take the place of working with you?

In my weekly blog, I try to share practical advice and shopping links based on questions and issues that have come up in client sessions. Sign up to have it delivered to your inbox here! But that information is for a general audience. While, for some people that might be enough, for others, the one-on-one, personalized approach is what allows for the most significant results.

Are you going to critique my clothes when I see you out and about town?

NO WAY!!! If I get to see you off the clock, I’m just excited to see you – there’s no judgment, ever! I literally have the ability to turn my critical eye on and off – so when I’m supposed to be giving honest advice it’s on, and when I’m out living life it’s off. So please, if I run into you at the grocery, don’t be embarrassed – I’m just looking for the best tomatoes, not at what you’re wearing.

Will this cost me a lot of money?

I am super committed to my clients. And to achieve true success, I ask the same in return. So, working with me does require an investment in yourself, of both time and money. Generally speaking, The Closet Analysis is a  $500-$600 investment depending on the size of your wardrobe, your needs and the stylist you work with. And to complete the entire 3 Step Process, the investment is about $1,500-$2,000. BUT everything is completely customizable and how far we go is totally up to you.
