Celebrate with Holiday Outfit Ideas From Evereve
Evereve x TWC
Evereve and I have a fun collaboration this week. The concept: to take Evereve’s Trendsend or Dressing Room to Go box (where they send you a box of goodies according to your preferences, and then you just keep what you like and send the rest back) and style up the pieces to make them into complete outfits. Basically make them ready for every occasion that’ll be on the docket this next 4-6 weeks. That’s the casual at home visits with friends and family, holiday shindigs, running errands - you know, the real life stuff.
My Ah-Ha Moment
My Evereve box was filled with some items that were amazeballs and also with some flops. Don’t get me wrong, the pieces themselves were great, but they were so not great on me. This is important to mention because I think women often get down on themselves when things don’t fit perfectly, right out of the box. I can tell you, unequivocally, after seeing thousands of women try on clothing - nothing looks good on everyone! Here’s the deal… and also what happened to me this round with my Evereve box… I tried everything on.Even the pieces that didn’t have “hanger” appeal. The stuff that didn’t fit (for me it was too tight in the waist or gave me a pouch) went right back in the box - no negotiations. But the other items that looked reasonably good and were comfortable is what I worked with. But the job wasn’t done then - they were pieces and parts that had potential BUT they were not completely an outfit yet - they were just clothes. They needed to be made into outfits… by mixing them with items already in my closet or knowing what I needed to add to make the outfit complete.
What’s the Difference Between Clothes and an Outfit?
I sort of think this could be a whole blog post of it’s own. However, in a nutshell it’s this...clothes are great. But the clothes are only the ingredients used to achieve an outfit. And it’s the outfit, in its entirety, that makes you feel put together. The ingredients (i.e the clothes) need to work together, as a whole to create visual harmony that highlights the individual wearing the outfit. Make sense?
And I’ll add that when one looks at outfits on bloggers or influencers, those people have taken the clothes and made them into outfits. Usually by combining them with items they own and love. And often it’s those pieces that take the outfit from pieces and parts to a cohesive unit aka from good to great.
Let Me Break it Down for You…
When I work with my personal styling clients we often start with one or two pieces they’d like to wear or are struggling with styling (you know those pieces that never seem to see the light of day but are somehow still hanging in your closet?) And from there we add on and put together an entire look. The shoes, the accessories, the third piece - the whole thing. So it’s complete, all set and ready to go. And that’s what I did with the items from Evereve - I started with a piece or two and kept adding until the recipe was complete and the ingredients played nicely with one another.
Holiday Outfit Ideas:
A LBD - Little Black Dress
Maybe I’m cheating a little using a dress because that’s actually the beauty of a dress...it’s a one and (almost) done item. This dress is super easy to wear. It’s a shift style so, zero waist definition (great for holiday eating) and still feels shapely. Adding a pop of color in the heels and a faux fur coat in a contrasting color gives the outfit interest. And then the bag ties it all together. BTW, this dress would also look great with sheer tights, slouchy boots, and a long necklace.
Wide Leg Pants + Tight Top
This is actually the outfit that gave me the ah-ha moment. Make sure to check out my instagram stories on Wednesday for the whole BTS explanation... The pants and top separately and even together are good, but they still failed to feel like a complete outfit. It needed a belt and boots (mine are oldies but goodies from 1996, but I linked similar) and an oversized blazer and a scarf to make it feel put together. That all being said, the pants would look great with a white tee, jean jacket and sneakers. And the tight top looks fantastic with wide leg wool trousers and a bold belt.
Holiday Party Perfect
This might be my favorite outfit from the box - probably because it was pretty much a whole outfit from the get go. Why? Because the top had so much going on already (sequins, puff shoulders, mock neck) that we were already ¾ of the way there from go. I love how the fancy top pairs with a leather jogger to create juxtaposition.
Elevated Joggers for At Home Entertaining
These are the same joggers (and they’re fantastic btw) but in this outfit I dressed them down a bit. I’d totally wear this to a friend's house for a party or out on a Saturday night. Again, the joggers, silk cami and chunky cardigan work well together or separately. Nevertheless, the gaggle of necklaces (pearl, pendant, delicate), bag and white booties are what finishes it off.
Cozy + Casual but Finished
This sweater is really cool because it’s a sweater and poncho in one - and so cozy. It runs generously - I’m wearing a medium and it’s too big. I paired it with the same joggers, and it works because the booties are the same color. Otherwise my legs would look too short because the sweater is mid thigh. The pop of white bag gives the look the finishing touch. BTW, this bag is my new fav everyday bag - it comes in a bunch of colors and is lightweight and holds a ton - even two spots for h2o bottles!
Run Around
This is basically a run around, athleisure outfit. But it feels more put together than your typical lulu or athleta. Partly because the joggers are those same leather ones. And because the sweatshirt is slightly cropped to have a more fashiony feel. Of course, the cool sneakers and jacket make the look whole.
