What to Wear in the Winter? One and Done Sweaters
What’s a Girl to Wear When It’s Winter?
Ughhhh - winter is really here! We had (at least in the midwest) a pretty good run of it. Our fall lasted way longer than usual and the snow pretty much held off until December (which is kind of unheard of). Global warming or not, winter has definitely arrived. And with it, the eternal challenge for the fashion gals. What to wear to keep ourselves warm when it’s freezing out. But to still feel like we look cute.
Yes, I know wearing a turtleneck and flannel with cords and Uggs will keep me toasty. And function (along with warmth) is essentially important. But I don’t want to look like I’m going on a wilderness expedition when we go out to dinner with friends on a Saturday night. You know what I mean?
The Winter Fashion Fix
IMHO there are two solutions… The first is layers - for example, a second skin top under a dress with a topper thrown in for third piece interest as well as warmth. But for many of my personal styling clients (as well as myself) winter gives us fashion apathy - we want an easy, quick fix. Therefore the one and done sweater is my winter wardrobe secret weapon.
How Does A One and Done Sweater Work?
That’s the best part! It’s soooo easy! One and done sweaters are exactly that - throw it on and go! Because these sweaters have all of the accessories built in. Let me explain…
A one and done sweater is essentially a sweater that has all the details and accessories already part of the design. Color, embellishment, cutouts - even all of the above together, at once. It allows you to put it on, with any bottom of your choice and just walk out the door.
The One Downside of a One and Done Sweater
Does it sound too good to be true? Well, while I am a BIG, HUGE fan of a one and done sweater, and I think it should be part of every woman's winter wardrobe. I do not think one's winter wardrobe should ONLY consist of one and done sweaters. Why? Because the exact nature of one and done sweaters, all of those special details, makes them very memorable. So while they’re easy to put on and go, they’re not super versatile. Think of them as frosting pieces, not cake.
