The Sale Edit: My 4-Step Sale Shopping Strategy & 4 Fabulous Sales
It’s SALE season! Yay and ugh at the same time. Sales are great, I mean, who doesn’t like saving money? However, there’s also an element of overwhelm - so many sales at so many stores (there are a bunch of retailers having special sales right now) how’s a girl to decide?
The truth is, decision fatigue is a real thing. And sale season can bring that on, big time. So to make it easier for you, I went through all the sites and picked my top pieces from each.
Before I share the sale picks, I do need to reiterate my “rules” for sale shopping. I say this every time I post about sales and it’s really important to keep in mind.
My 4-Step Sale Shopping Strategy
Step #1: Assess Your Wardrobe Needs
Before diving into any sale, it's essential to take a moment and reflect:
Which items do you constantly feel are missing when you're piecing together an outfit?
What does a typical day in your life look like? The genuine, behind-the-scenes version, not the Instagram-filtered one.
Which favorite pieces are showing signs of wear and might soon need a replacement?
Armed with this knowledge, dive into sale shopping with a strategy:
Prioritize basics. These essential items anchor your entire wardrobe and are the ones you'll reach for time and time again. If any basics are absent from your collection, secure them first.
Maintain a realistic perspective. It's easy to have lofty ideals of our lifestyles, but what does an average day for you genuinely entail?
Opt for trusted favorites. Your most-loved pieces tend to wear out faster due to frequent use. Sales are the perfect opportunity to replenish them—plus, you're already sure of their fit and feel.
Step #2: Visualize Its Place in Your Life
This can be summarized with the 3/3 rule. When you've set your sights on a potential purchase:
Envision 3 outfits you could create with it using existing items in your wardrobe.
Picture 3 real scenarios or places where you'd sport this piece.
If it ticks both boxes, it's likely a worthy addition to your cart!
Step #3: Understand the Policies
We've all been there—making an impulsive buy, only to regret it later and then realize returns aren't possible. Always, and I mean ALWAYS, familiarize yourself with the return policy and other related fine prints.
Step #4: Forecast Your Fashion
Seasonal sales present a golden chance to peek into upcoming trends. Evaluate what's gaining traction and determine its phase in the trend lifecycle. Ideally, you'd snag items on sale now that will remain stylish and fresh for the upcoming season.
